We come to this time (church services), and we are
not shaken. Nothing strange here;
we are surrounded by the familiar. We’ve
been here before; no one need guide us. We
shake recognized hands as we spot “our” seats.
We prepare to do what we did last week, and the week before, and the week
before that. And that is our enemy
– familiarity.
To see our God as familiar – this is the
greatest danger. For we
are peculiar creatures. We revere
strangers and yawn at our intimates. But certainly we don’t do this to God, to the holy One of
Israel. We wouldn’t, couldn’t
– could we? That is
a question only you can answer. As
you attend church services, look around you.
Remember, He is here. Can
you see Him? Can you smell Him? Can
you touch Him? By no means!
But He is here. And He must not be ignored, for...
He
is the King of Glory in our midst!
Grace and peace,
